In Copenhagen, the airport (CPH) is located conveniently close to the city center, and its transportation network is among the best in the world. That’s why Copenhagen Airport transportation is not only simple but also offers multiple options to get into the city.
Since public transportation in Copenhagen runs partially 24/7, you can count on being able to get to or from the airport easily—no matter what time your flight arrives or departs.
Copenhagen Airport Transfer by Public Transportation
Public transportation isn’t just the easiest way to reach Copenhagen Airport—it’s also available in several convenient forms.
Train
If you’re unfamiliar with the city, the train is usually the most recommended option. During the day, it runs every 15 minutes, and every 30 minutes at night. Copenhagen Central Station (København H) is just three stops and 13 minutes away, and the train also stops at several other major hubs. From the train, you can transfer to all four metro lines and all S-Tog (commuter rail) lines.
There are two things worth noting. First, unfortunately, the train schedule isn’t always reliable. Delays of 10–15 minutes can happen, and it’s not uncommon for a train to be canceled entirely. So don’t cut it too close. Second, these trains are often packed—sometimes you won’t find a seat, and even boarding can be tricky. When heading into Copenhagen, choose trains that go as far as Østerport.
If you’re heading to Malmö via Copenhagen Airport, this is the train you’ll take. In the other direction, these trains cross the Øresund Bridge into Sweden.
You can check the airport train schedule on the DSB railway company website, and departure times are also posted next to the underground station at Terminal 3.
Metro
The M2 metro line runs directly to the airport, offering frequent service between the terminal and the city center. Copenhagen’s metro operates 24 hours a day, so you can use it at any time. For the metro schedule, click the link.
The metro often runs more reliably and more frequently than the train. If the train is 10 minutes late, the metro easily makes up for its slightly longer trip into the city. If your destination is along the metro line, this is likely your best option, as the frequent stops provide convenient, transfer-free service to many neighborhoods.
That said, don’t expect much comfort here either. These airport metro cars are usually full of suitcase-toting travelers in both directions.
Bus
You can also take the 5C bus line to Copenhagen Airport. This bus also runs 24 hours a day. While it’s the slowest option, taking around 45 minutes to reach the city center, it can be a great choice if it passes near your destination.
And since fewer tourists with heavy luggage use the airport bus, it’s a relaxing ride if you’ve got time and want to see different neighborhoods along the way.

Public Transportation Fares
No matter which method you choose, Copenhagen Airport transportation by public transit costs the same. The city is divided into fare zones (the airport is in Zone 4, the city center in Zone 1), and you pay based on the number of zones traveled.
There are many different ways to purchase tickets, and the best option depends on how much you’ll be using public transit during your stay. Just remember: you can’t buy tickets onboard vehicles—including the train—and ticket inspections are common. So always make sure you have a valid ticket before boarding.
Here are the available ticket options at the airport:
- Buy a single-use paper ticket from DSB or DOT machines at the airport or major stations.
- Purchase a day ticket via the DOT Tickets app.
- Pay by zone using the Rejsekort app.
- Use the Rejsebillet app to pay per ride or purchase day passes.
- The Copenhagen Card covers city transportation—including airport transfers.
- Buy train tickets on the DSB (national railway) website—these work on all modes of transport.
Other Copenhagen Airport Transfer Options
If public transit isn’t your thing, there are still several ways to get between Copenhagen Airport and the city center—or other parts of the city.
- Taxi. You can take a taxi to or from the airport. It’s not cheap, but it’s fast and comfortable. You can call a cab at +45 35 35 35 35 or order one via the TAXA app.
- Rental car. Besides traditional car rentals—which aren’t exactly classic airport transfers—car-sharing apps also let you get to or from the airport. We personally use Green Mobility and can recommend them. Click the link to download the app and use code TJlxqlpU to get 30 minutes of free driving.
- Bike. In most cities this would sound like a joke—but not in Copenhagen. If you’re up for a ride and don’t have too much luggage, you’ll find bike paths next to virtually every road. For example, the Donkey Republic app (which we also use) lets you grab a shared bike. Click the link and use code 55CA8C for 15 minutes of free biking.
